Tsunami Evacuation Drill carried out at La Punta district in Callao city

Overview:
As part of the social implementation research results of the SATREPS project,
a tsunami evacuation drill was carried out at La Punta district in the Callao city of Peru.
Assuming a magnitude 8 class earthquake occurring offshore of Lima city which triggers a tsunami
(with nearly 20min of arrival time), a vertical evacuation drill to the designated high buildings in La Punta was conducted.
Near 2,000 people among citizens and emergency response members participated on the morning of August 14th.
To the sound of sirens the evacuation started and the number of evacuees at each buildings were counted.
A questionnaire survey was distributed to gather preferences and opinions of citizens in the area.
In addition to citizens’ evacuation, also several organizations participated.
At the emergency headquarters located in the Navy school we discussed with local authorities and leaders about evacuation trainings in La Punta.
