Characteristics of Seismic Strong Motion and Seismic Response Analysis of Ground
Using seismic motions in Japan recorded by new strong motion networks, attenuation relationship for peak ground motions (PGA, PGV) and response spectra were developed. Soil amplification characteristics were investigated using site-dependent factors of the attenuation relations. Spectral and time-dependent characteristics of acceleration records from liquefied ground were investigated and an empirical relation for the onset of liquefaction was proposed using only three-component acceleration records. Site response characteristics are being investigated using strong motion records, microtremors, and various numerical approaches.
